Abdul Salam the son of Pakistani background founded Elite Event Caterers more than 35 years ago. A fiercely ambitious young man, Abdul had always known that life held a greater purpose for him than the poverty-stricken village he called home. In the summer of 1960 Abdul left his native city of Lahore, and travelled to the Maldives, where he enlisted in the Royal Air Force as a full time cook.
However, the man affectionately known as Akoo Ustad to those close to him, quickly gained a reputation as a diligent individual with leadership skills, who was widely respected among colleagues. Shortly thereafter, Abdul was promoted to Head Chef, and though greatly honored by this recognition, the dream of one day establishing his own catering business remained close to his heart.
In 1969, after almost a decade of service, Abdul decided to leave the RAF and so with only thirty pounds, and British passport in his possession, headed for the UK. Abdul finally settled, in the backstreets of London’s Aldgate East, where he began his endeavor of a lifelong ambition. After a few short years Abdul, along with the support of devoted wife Saeeda Begum, and four young sons Javed, Tahir, Qamer, and Naeem, went on to establish what later became known as Elite Event Caterers. A pioneer of his time, Abdul tailored his catering services specifically for Asian weddings, occasions not only reminiscent of the rich culture he loved so much, but also that embodied much of the religious traditions he had known since he was a boy.
Today at Elite, the founding principles that distinguished Abdul Salam from his peers remains the same, which is testament to both his unique talent and vision, without which we would not exist today. We are tremendously proud of our heritage, and deeply passionate about what we consider a unique brand of service that is unrivalled anywhere.
